Course Description

This course is designed to introduce and develop basic principles of chemistry and physics and their associated laboratory skills.

Course Goals

• Complete 2 Science credits for Core 40 graduation requirements
• Exposure to College Lab Environment and develop laboratory safety/procedure skills
• SWBAT master the periodic table and properties of elements
• SWBAT construct theoretical chemical reactions

Course Standards

• HS-ICP1-1. Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms
• HS-ICP1-2. Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties.
