Course Description

Composition I at Believe Circle City High School will consist of two main purposes. The first is that students will gain an understanding of the English language by engaging in content that will teach standard usage of the language in the form of Grammar and Conventions. The second purpose will be to help students discover what their identity is as a writer. In order to do this, students will be guided through studies of mentor texts and engage in writing exercises that will help each individual student find exactly what their own identity is as a writer. The four main genres students will write in are narrative, argumentative, informative, and research writing.

Course Goals

SWBAT develop a better understanding of proper language usage.
SWBAT develop a better understanding of writing techniques.
SWBAT put their understanding of writing techniques into practice.

The standards that will be taught in this course align directly with the Indiana State Standards for 9th and 10th grade Writing as well as the SAT standards for Writing and Language
